Erik Karlsson had a goal and an assist, and Mark Borowiecki added three helpers as the Senators topped the Montreal Canadiens 5-1 in their first preseason game. Alex Burrows, Chris DiDomenico, Markus Nurmi, and Tyler Randell also scored for Ottawa. Goaltender Alex Price made 16 saves in the win. R.J. Umberger replied for Montreal and Al Montoya stopped 29 in the loss. After a scoreless first period, Alex Burrows broke the ice with a nice wrister from the slot at 5:44 of the 2nd. Umberger replied quickly, sliding the puck in behind Price at 7:28 of the 2nd. After that, it was all Ottawa potting 4 unanswered, including an empty netter. Price says he was able to ease himself into the game. "I was nervous to start. It's only pre-season, but I was a bit nervous. But as the game went on, I felt comfortable and was able to make the saves I needed to stop." Head Coach Guy Boucher was happy with the team performance. "Everyone contributed. It was a great team effort by our group." Next up, Ottawa plays the Maple Leafs in Toronto on Thursday.
